You've probably heard us talk about how much we love this leather tote. It does (and holds) everything you need, and then some. We've taken it for a spin (50,000 miles) and we're proud to say it's passed with flying colors.
Our leather tote bag features classic, 100% top grain semi-aniline leather and a natural cotton hand-dyed lining.
A chic staple for all occasions, this tote is roomy enough to carry everything you need for your next adventure or a night out.
As with all Nu Market bags, 20% of the profits fund literacy education and business trainings in our partner artisan communities, because the most stylish thing you can do is support women artisans.
Tote bag with dual leather drawstrings, magnetic closure, one external and two internal zippered pockets.
Natural cotton dust bag included.
1) Guizhou Blue Weave
This light blue handwoven fabric and traditional design is made by our partner women artisans in the hills of southwest China. This cotton lining is made using centuries-old techniques on traditional wooden looms and using cotton picked from the surrounding hillsides.
2) Ji Jia Indigo Batik
Hand woven and hand dyed by Nu Market's partner women artisans in the hills of southwest China, this cotton lining is made with locally grown indigo and cotton, and designed using a melted wax technique that creates the blue and white contrast. Each piece of fabric is truly one of a kind.
We want you to love your Nu Market handbag, backpack purse, crossbody bag or leather tote forever, and wanted to share some tips on how to keep it at its best.
Your bag is special and full of character. Each one is made of all-natural leather that is its authentic self without paints, pigments, or other "enhancing" treatments.
Your bag will shine with natural beauty. Should scratch marks appear, simply use your fingertips to rub them out. Spots and small stains will also become less obvious the more you wear your bag.
Over time, the color of your handbag may change to a warmer hue. Celebrate this new shade, it is the natural course of unaltered leather, and everything is better au naturale.
Simply put, wear your bag as often as your heart desires. Embrace its imperfections, or beauty marks as we like to call them, and enjoy it for exactly what it is.
Your handbag will do the rest.
While traveling through remote regions of southwest China, our co-founder, Caroline, discovered beautiful handicraft traditions, preserved by geographic remoteness and refined by generations of women artisans. But in a region faced with illiteracy and limited job opportunities beyond agriculture, she learned that women artisans today often lack a marketplace for their handicrafts beyond their own villages.
We currently work with over 750 artisans.
The handicrafts would be sold to intrepid travelers who visited the artisans in their villages or attended the closest town during market days. Sales were generally limited geographically, and buyers weren't long-term partners. Additionally, handicrafts are used by friends and family in local celebrations and everyday life.
We work with local non-profits to fund literacy education programs and business training workshops in the communities where we work. Our goal is to create additional opportunities for artisans through skills-based training.
The unique Indigo lining in our handbags is made using the batik process (learn more here) and handweaving on wooden looms.
